Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s inescapable hit “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, is far and away the biggest Latin song of the first half of 2017, according to Nielsen Music. The tune collected 624.4 million on-demand streams (video and audio combined) during the tracking period of Dec. 30, 2016, and June 29, 2017, according to Nielsen. The next biggest song, Shakira’s “Chantaje,” featuring Maluma, trailed far behind with 140.3 million streams.
Speaking of Shakira, the superstar has the biggest Latin album overall so far in 2017, as her latest release, El Dorado, earned 131,000 equivalent album units. (Equivalent album units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums [TEA] and streaming equivalent albums [SEA].) El Dorado is also the year’s biggest-selling album, with 33,000 copies sold.
